From September 2005 to June 2006 a team of thirteen scholars at the The University of Southern California's Annenberg Center for Communication explored how new and maturing networking technologies are transforming the way in which we interact with content, media sources, other individuals and groups, and the world that surrounds us.

Social networks are social systems with abstract and concrete relationships which can be regarded as social relations that connect informally: all kind social connections, including family connections, business connections, social cleavage, indirect connections as well as their junctures, disjunctures, and all kinds of ad-hoc connections and clusters.

Social network analysis, also sometimes called network theory, has emerged as a key technique in modern world of social sciences. A subset actor-network theory (ANT) contains not merely people, but objects and organisations.

Social networking also refers to as how the information and communication technology applications are used to connect friends, business partners, or other individuals together.
